Paragraph
Gerorge Hartman is a 75 year old man from Vernan, Germany who came to America at the age of 6. In his 75 years he has been a blacksmith and a painter.Due to his vigorous work in the noisy blacksmith shop, Mr. Harman is now partly deaf in his right ear. His interview by Sherman dolman was taking place on September 12th, 1938 at Geroge's home in Lincion, New York City. This man lived in a small and bare apartment in New York City. George did not receive an education past fourth grade just 3 years after he arrived in America. When Mr.Hartman was hit by the depression, he was forced to live on small amounts of corn- meal and sorgum. Due to the shortage of supplies, he was forced to make his clothes out of burlap sacks and often went barefoot.
Jacob Stein is a 50 year old man who was born in Poland in 1888. He came to America in 1905 and settled in the east side of New York. He used to work as a WPA, but once he lost that job, he couldn't find another and became a bum. His interview was at the Union Square on December 5, 1938 by B. Hathaway. He never went to a formal school, but only what he calls hard school of experience. He learned to read and write on his own time and stuggled. He is known as a theist and is marked as an anti-radicalist. The people we found interviewed are similar. For exapmle Jacob Stein did not go to school at all while George Harman only went to school for the first 4 years. Even thought they did not receive the same amount of schooling years, they did not receive a high enough education to help them out when the Great Depression hit. When the Depression hit America, these men were forced to live in uncomfortable conditions. Mr. Harman had to turn to clothing made out of scraps found around his farm house in kansas. Mr. Stein ended up loosing his job and because he could not get a new one, due to economy failture, he became a bum.
